Convention 2020 Program, Eventbrite Registration, and Plenary Sessions

It is with great pleasure with which I announce that the 78th NYSCA Annual Conference will be expecting a total of 189 presenters and attendees. From NYS alone, we have 119 conference presenters representing various academic institutions.  We also have conference representations from an additional 14 states and 16 countries around the world.
 
The program of the 78th Annual Conference of New York State Communication Association Convention (online) has been published. The weekend of October 16-18 promises a pool of 45 competitive panels and paper sessions from both national and international communication scholars. Sponsored by the State University of New York at New Paltz, Wilson Scholars Plenary will feature Mr. Omar Alshagore, Director of Syrian Detainees, along with filmmakers representing both national and international academic institutions.
 
Friday, October 16, 6:30-7:30 pm (EST)
Dr. Nicholas David Bowman will deliver the keynote address, titled: “Evolving Norms for Communication Research: The Costs and Benefits of a Culture of Transparency.”
 
Two Concurrent Events: Saturday, October 17, 11:00 am-12:30 pm (EST)
For Graduate and Faculty Members: Sponsored by Kendall Hunt, Dr. Nicholas David Bowman will deliver a short course, titled: “Updating the Undergraduate Mass Communication Curriculum With an Entertainment Media Course.” Online registration for this course is required on our registration system, Eventbrite, the latest by October 2, 2020 if you plan to attend.
For Undergraduate Members: Drop in to the panel titled, “Navigating MA programs and international student application processes” to learn about graduate communication programs, media studies, and new programs at New York University, Fordham University, and Rutgers University. International students will gain knowledge about the process of international student visas.

Dr. Jasbir Puar will deliver the keynote address, titled: “Spatial Debilities: Slow Life and Carceral Capitalism in Palestine.”

Closing Session with Amy Kaslow:
Amy Kaslow is an award-winning journalist, writer, and photographer focusing on at-risk societies worldwide. This online exhibition, Life After War: Disturbed* examines deeply scarring trauma in 12 countries where sexual violence, gang control, human trafficking, and corrosive governance push human resilience to its most pressing point.
 
Our electronic registration system, Eventbrite, is now available for presenters membership and conference registration, and will close on Friday, October 2, 2020 at 11:59 pm.
